Traditionally Loomed - Ethically Sourced - Sustainably Made
Turkish peshtemal towels have a rich history that dates back centuries. They are believed to have first been used in bathhouses around the 1400s, but the weaving techniques behind them go all the way back to 6000 B.C. in Anatolia (modern-day Türkiye). The region has a long tradition of textile craftsmanship, passed down through generations. While weaving methods have evolved, the artistry remains alive in the skilled hands of the artisans who continue to create these beautiful pieces.
With deep respect for this tradition, we’re excited to announce the launch of Thriae Handmade. In addition to our ethically sourced, sustainably made, and modern organic Turkish peshtemals and textiles, we are now offering products that highlight traditional weaving techniques. Thriae Handmade features both fully handmade and shuttle-loomed pieces—each one unique, each with its own story, and each carrying the timeless energy of ancient craftsmanship. To honor these traditional methods, each style and colorway will be available in limited quantities.
For our handmade collection, Thriae has partnered with Tezgahal - a small atelier in Buldan, Türkiye, owned by Melih Duyar, a third-generation textile artisan. Melih’s family history and expertise ensure that we present the highest quality styles while staying true to these time-honored techniques. The atelier’s weaving process is expertly managed by Nezal Teyze (Auntie Nezal), who oversees the shuttle and hand looms. Buldan, a town in Türkiye’s Aegean region, has been a hub for textile production since 800 B.C. We are honored to share these timeless handmade pieces with the world.
