The ancient city of Tripolis is thought to have been established in the 4th century, B.C. on the fertle banks of the Menderes (Meander) River. It was a thriving community, with city gates, streets, baths, stadium, theatre and city council buildings. Partially destroyed by an earthquake in 494, the city was gradually depopulated. Today, the site is under excavation with both indoor and outdoor spaces to visit and take in the sites. Tripolis is located in the same area as our Thriae Handmade atelier in the town of Buldan. Buldan is said to be the birthplace of textile weaving in Turkiye and is still a textile center today.
